Filming and Photographing the Little owl with the OM-1 mk2 and 150-400mm Lens
Little owls are becoming scarce. There are no longer any birds on the estate where I normally photograph.
I visit Brine Pit Farm in Worcestershire to photograph them.
www.brinepitwildlifephotography.co.uk/
They have a number of hides here suitable for photography. Little owl, Kingfisher, Kestrel, Reed bed hide and a reflection pool hide. All are well built and very photogenic.

Filming and photographing the elusive Capercaillie using the OM-1 and 150-400mm lens.
Переглядів 15 тис.21 годину тому
The Capercaillie is on the edge of extinction again in Scotland and the opportunity for photography limited. In Norway they are a common bird. It is possible to photograph them from the car on the side of the road. On this trip I did that, but also spent three nights in a hide at a lek or display ground. That is hard work and means a long wait in very cold conditions. All filmed and photographe...
Capturing Norway's Winter Birds with Pro Capture on the OM-1 Mk2 and the 150-400mm Lens

I spend a week in Norway to photograph Black Grouse and Capercaillie. Inbetween time there is a fantastic bird feeder running that was full of birds, such as Bullfinch, Hawfinch, Greenfinch, Brambling, Yellowhammers and Siskin. The Black grouse had unfortunately already finished displaying at their lek, but the bird feeder partially made up for this. The Black grouse and Capercaillie tour can b...

Starlings are not the greatest songsters in the world, but they put a lot of effort into it with a nice display of wing flapping to help the effect. I find a nice blue coloured hut where they are nesting under the roof. It makes for a nice setting. I use the OM-1 Mk2 for all the video. Finally a reason to buy an OM-1 Mk2. It does have an advantage, at least for me.

This is the third and hopefully the last film on the differences between the OM-1 Mk1 and Mk2. A watcher of my You tube channel pointed out a flaw with the OM-1 Mk1 that I was not aware of, but has almost certainly lost me pictures in the past. When you zoom with the 150-400mm the camera will not take pictures, but it is not obvious this is happening. I zoom a lot and have sometimes wondered wh...
Is the OM-1 mk2 better at AF for birds than the OM-1 Mk1? It has taken me a while to decide!
Переглядів 9 тис.Місяць тому
I did not rush to buy the new OM-1 M2 as the spec was not very exciting, but once the price dropped by about £450 I did. The only hope was that the AF would be better than the previous model. No other feature on the camera interested me. What I needed to test it was the rain to stop and to be in a place where lots of birds were flying around and I could spend some hours taking thousands of imag...

Mike, nice video as always. I was wondering what was the issue with your lens? How long it took to fix it? Is pro support making any difference in repair speed ?( e.g. was it repaired within claimed 3 days?) I have noticed sometimes peculiar issues with mine recently. It is often completely missing the focus of bird flight sequences without recovery when the background is changing (from rocks, trees to water, and backlit situations, etc). I was not sure if that is because of the switch to OM1 Mark 2 or because something is going on with my lens. My lens is approx. 2 years old and I used it extensively. I also experienced time to time brief blackouts with the lens, which improved with the lens firmware 1.1. I really love this lens and very reluctant to send it to repair when the problem is not black and white. I am afraid that a potentially costly repair will not improve anything or will make it even worst. thanks

It was the tripod foot mount that was stuck. The bearings were jammed. I did not send it to OM cameras, but took it to Luton camera Reapirs and paid £180. It took 10 days. Always hard to know when equipment is faulty when it comes to AF and when we are expecting too much. Hope you get it sorted.

@@MikeLaneFRPS I want to shoot slow motion wildlife videos, but I only have the OM-1. The G9ii autofocus is not great, so it can't completely replace my OM-1. Great footage. Apparently, the woodpecker's skull is specially designed to withstand repeated blows and to protect the bird's brain from concussion. Unlike other birds, the bones between the beak and the skull are joined by a flexible cartilage, which cushions the shock of each blow.

Always a treat starting the weekend with late morning coffee and a new video from you Mike! I was sceptic to the bird-eye detection but now when I have it , I love it. But I recently set it to of on my OM-1 when I use pro-capture. If there's more than one bird on a treestub and want to nail a bird-fight the focus tend to catch both birds better somehow. One thing I will try out is to follow the bird a little bit when it take of and then press the shutter fully down in pro-capture.Maybee I get more keepers then. But all my braincells are on the shutter so I usualy press right after the bird take of and end up with the one shot with fully wingspread.. Has anybody else thought about trying that?
